Kwabenya Trial: I don’t know the Kwabenya Police Station – Accused

Kofi Seshie, the sixth accused person in the Dome Kwabenya District Police Station cell break in which a policeman was killed, has told the court hearing the case that he did not know the location of the Kwabenya Police Station.

Led by his counsel, Mr George Asamani on Tuesday, Kofi said he didn't know the Kwabenya Police Station, hence could not have abetted in the releasing anyone from the cells.

The witness had earlier told the court that, he was a taxi driver and lived at Kasoa with some friends and did not know any of the three other accused persons.

He said on the day of his arrest, five other persons were arrested from his house and that out of the five, he was the only one who was charged with abetment and escape from lawful custody.

Mr Asamani asked whether he was aware the investigator told the court that one Attah Kwadwo who was arrested after escaping had pointed him out that he was the one who freed the inmates, he answered that he was aware but this was not true.

When asked whether he confronted him when he pointed at him in the presence of the police, he told the court that, ‘I asked him if knew me, he said yes. Then I asked him what my name was, but he could not mention it but insisted he knew me.

Kofi ended his defense but maintained that he still stands by the statement he gave to the police on his arrest.

During cross-examination by the prosecution led by Police Inspector Samuel Ahiabor, he enquired from the accused, whether he was aware that Kwadwo mentioned him as an accomplice who freed the inmates, but his answer was that the people mentioned were in the cells, but he was not there.

Kofi insisted that he was not at the police station on the said date of January 21, 2018.

The three other accused persons, Prince Osei, Nancy Denta and Prince Kofi Acheampong, said they had nothing to ask Kofi.

This ended his defense and cross-examination. The case was adjourned to January 22.
