Crystal Palace manager Roy Hodgson has claimed that Ghana International Jordan Ayew is feeling a little frustrated following a lack of goals in the English Premier League.

Jordan had a blistering start to the season where he scored consistently but with the league entering the homestretch the goals have dried up for the son of Ghana and Africa legend Abedi Pele.

Jordan’s lack of goals in recent times which now stretches to five games has coincided with a poor run of form for Palace in the league.

However, over the weekend Palace got their first victory of 2020 in the league when they pipped The Eagles of Newcastle United 1-0 courtesy Patrick Van Aanholt’s strike at Selhurst Park on Saturday.

The victory was significant because it ended a run of three league defeats for Roy Hodgson's side who benefitted from yet another ragged display by the visitors.

Against Newcastle , Jordan Ayew who has become a fan favourite at the club went close on a couple of occasions, one of which came off the foot of the post, while Belgian Christian Benteke really should have done better with a header from six yards out.

Despite his goal drought, Ayew has earned plaudits from Palace coach Hodgson over the manner he carried himself in the game.

The veteran trainer however remarked that the Ghana international cut a frustrated figure after the game.

"He had a wonderful game. He comes off a little bit disappointed. He wants to score goals. He knows that if he is ever going to be regarded as a top, top striker people are going to look at his goalscoring record."

"We've got to make sure we don't allow that type of thing to get him down in anyway because what he is doing for the team is immeasurable, really. But it would've been nice if he had capped that performance with a goal or maybe two goals, and then I think he would be bouncing around even more than I'm sure he is at the moment because he's a team player and he knows how much this victory meant to us as a team."

Ayew is Palace’s leading scorer in the ongoing league after hitting 6 goals and providing 1 assist in 26 appearances.
