MOH express condolence to family of murdered doctor

Accra, Aug 16, GNA - The Ministry of Health on Thursday expressed its condolence to the family of the late Dr Victoria Anyetei, a Ghanaian Paediatrician, resident in Britain who was stabbed to death in London. A statement signed by Mr. Dan Osman Mwin, Public Relations Officer for the Ministry expressed shock that the tragedy had happened at a time when Ghanaian medical and dental practitioners living abroad had expressed interest to return home to help provide quality health care. "The Ministry wishes to send its condolences to the family, both in Britain and Ghana, especially her 19-year-old son Andrew Thompson who discovered the blood splattered body of his mum.

"Whilst asking all Ghanaians resident in the United Kingdom to be alert at all times as they go about their duties, the Ministry appeals to the British authorities to do a thorough investigation and bring the perpetrators of this horrendous act to book," the statement added. The 53-year-old consultant was attacked outside her suburban home and stabbed multiple times all over her body as she sat in her Toyota Avensis parked in her driveway in the quiet cul-de-sac. Her blood splattered body lay undiscovered in the front seat of the car - with the door shut and was only found two hours later by her teenage son when he left the house.

Dr Anyetei has been working in the UK since 1994, and started as a locum consultant paediatrician at St. Thomas's Hospital in central London eight months ago.
