The number of adolescents having multiple sexual partners in Ghana is on the ascendency, a new survey has revealed.
According to the Ghana Demographic Health survey, 44 percent of young people have sex before age 18.
The report also revealed that these young people didn’t have a comprehensive sexual education to inform their choices.
The report indicated that the implications of this trend are high numbers of teenage pregnancy and out of wedlock childbearing which is an indictment on socio-economic growth of the country.
The survey also outlined that silence, embarrassment, and disapproval of open discussions on issues related to sexual activity by adults, including teachers and parents, at the very time when it is most needed contributed highly to the situation.
