Maritzburg coach, Eric Tinkler, is unhappy with the decision to hand over the Best Player gong to his goalkeeper, Richard Ofori in their goalless draw game against Stellenbosch on Sunday.
The coach believes his opponent’s goalkeeper, De Jong performed much better to deserve the gong than his Ghanaian shot stopper.
"I find that decision absolutely ridiculous," Coach Tinkler sincerely poured out his frustration about the decision to reward the Ghana international with a statuette and a cash prize.
Although he admitted that Ofori made some important saves during the game, he was convinced that De Jong put in a lot more effort to warrant the accolade than his goalkeeper.
The 25-year-old goalkeeper has been a revelation since signing for the South Africa side from Wa All Stars some three seasons ago and continues to churn out spectacular performances for his club each week.
Unfortunately, his performance over the weekend could not impress his manager to win his support for the best player prize.
"I really do not know how he was named man of the match when the other goalkeeper (Boy de Jong) was much busier," he added after their 0-0 draw with promoted side, Stellenbosch in Cape Town
