The media has been urged to streamline the advertisement of alcoholic beverages and aphrodisiac products to help prevent children from engaging in immoral acts.

Ms Evelyn Y. Bansah, the New Juaben South Municipal Director of the Department of Social Development, Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection, expressed regret that sections of the media had become a channel for promotion of immorality through the advertisement of alcoholic beverages and the use of aphrodisiac products.

She said children were mostly the ones who experienced the impact of those advertisements because they were easily influenced by media products.

Ms Bansah was speaking at the quarterly review meeting of the Girls Advocacy Alliance (GAA) Project, organised in Koforidua by the International Child Development Programme (ICDP), in collaboration with Plan Ghana.

“The world is now a sophisticated place where technology has taken over the relationship between parents and children,” she said, and urged parents to bond with their children to know their challenges.

Mr Emmanuel K. Dartey, the Eastern Regional Director of the Department of Children, said most children, especially girls, went astray because their parents failed to provide their basic needs.

He advised parents to build a good friendly relationship with their children in order to gain their trust.
