Minister for inner cities and Zongo development, Mustapha Hamid has bemoaned that his outfit does not yet have enough grounds to deal with all the problems particularly prevalent in the inner cities and Zongos.
According to him, his ministry was created barely three years ago, thus, does not have enough exposure to solve the problems that have plagued the inner cities and Zongos over the years of the nonexistence of the ministry.
Comparing his rather ‘young’ ministry to others that have existed since the first republic, he noted that, even though such ministries have existed for as long as he could remember, they have not been able to solve their pertinent issues.
Explaining the depths of his claims, he indicated that most of the ministries were created before or after independence yet the country still faces the issues they were established to solve.
“…all the ministries were there before independence, yet we haven’t finished solving our roads problems, we haven’t finished solving all our education problems, we haven’t finished solving all our housing problems.”
“So how can a ministry that was created only two years and three months resolve all the challenges of inner cities and zongo communities around the country in two years four months.”
“What of those who were there before independence and we’re still resolving their challenges,” the minister questioned.
He further established that the performance of his ‘young’ ministry so far is quite impressive thus he envisions that given another 62 years, the ministry would be able to wipeout all the problems it has come to meet and even subsequent ones.
“I can assure you that Ghana is 62 years getting to 63 years as a country, if this ministry survives another 63 years based on what we’ve done in this two years and three months, I can assure you that we can wipe out all the problems in our inner cities and zongos.”
Mustapha Hamid made these known during the launch of the phase one household toilets in Ga Mashie, today, April 10 2019.
The household toilets project is not only targeted at providing toilet facilities for residents in the enclave of inner cities but also aimed at restoring human dignity through seeking an end to open defecation.
