The opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) has announced the suspension of four of its executives for the Amenfi Central Constituency in the Western Region.

A letter issued by the General Secretary of the party, Fifi Fiavi Kwetey, said the executives are being suspended from the party for allegedly engaging in anti-party behaviour.

The affected executives include Raphael Andoh Kwaw, Constituency Chairman; Richmond Aleke, Constituency Organizer; Grace Kwaw, Women’s Organizer; and Janet Fynn, Deputy Women’s Organizer.

“At a meeting of the Functional Executive Committee (FEC) of the Party held on the 5th of June, 2024, it was resolved that the following Executives of the Amenfi Central Constituency be suspended forthwith pending further investigations into your anti-party behaviour.

“… The suspension is for an initial period of six (6) months and may be subject to renewal. Your membership of the NDC therefore stands suspended. The suspension is referred to the Party’s National Disciplinary Committee for further action,” part of the letter, which is dated June 6, 2024, reads.

The party also summoned the incumbent Member of Parliament (MP) for Amenfi Central, Peter Yaw Kwakye-Ackah, to appear before its Political Committee.

It also formed an interim Presidential Campaign Task Force for the constituency, which would be chaired by Joana Gyan, the party’s parliamentary candidate for the 2024 elections.

The suspension of the four executives comes following an injunction against Joana Gyan by the High Court in Sekondi, preventing her from presenting herself as the elected parliamentary candidate for the NDC in the Amenfi Central constituency due to allegations of her forging her voter's ID and NDC party card.

The court order, presided over by Justice G. K. Gyan-Kontoh, also restrained the NDC, the second defendant, from recognizing or dealing with Joana Cudjoe Gyan as the duly elected NDC parliamentary candidate for the Amenfi Central Constituency.

Furthermore, the injunction order stated that the applicants must file an undertaking to pay damages as compensation to the respondent if it is eventually determined that the applicants are not entitled to the injunction."
