The three finalists of the 2019/2020 Nana Sir Ofori-Atta I National Energy Quiz - Asamankese SHS, Oyoko Methodist SHS and Nkwatia SHS are set for the much-awaited final battle for the event on Thursday, 13th February, 2020.
This follows several months and weeks of preparation and nerve-wracking duels and rekindling of academic competitions, it all comes down to the big event at the Krobo Girls Senior High School at Odumase-Krobo.
Their respective qualifications to the grande final follows their respective surprise victories over more fancied opponents in the semifinals of the competition.
Surely, it will be a first title win for any of the three finalists as it will be a story of the coveted trophy being lifted for the first time by any of the three schools.
Road to the final
The three schools exhibited a diversity of ability, talent and formidability in the build-up towards the grande final.
Ultimately however, what will matter most is the hunger from the contestants as all three are resolute to do a back and have already declared that they want to win the title.
The quick, intelligent and eloquent responses of the nine finalists of the competition, have thrilled their vociferous followers who followed them week after week.
Asamankese SHS knocked out Saviour SHS and Oda SHS at the quarter-finals before delivering a steady performance to dominate the entire contest in the semis, to keep hopes alive after beating yilo krobo senior high school to make their historic appearance in the finals.
On the other hand, Nkwatia Presby SHS also eliminated St. Francis SHTS and Bepong SHS at the quarter-final stage before pulling a stunning performance in their semi-final contest to send favourites, St. Peters SHS packing on their way to the grande-final.
The third finalist, Oyoko Methodist SHS crushed Osino SHTS and Larteh SHS at the quarter-finals and went on to eliminate Anum Presby SHS at the semis to book their ticket for Thursday’s showdown.
A fierce battle therefore awaits the three Senior High Schools in what promises to be an appetizing grand finale.
The National energy quiz competition has been a remarkable event competition that sought to bring senior high school students in Ghana an exceptional competitive spirit.
Dignitaries expected at NEQ grand finale include the Executive Secretary of the Energy Commission, the Group CEO/MD, GOIL CO LTD, Chief Executive Officer of Ghana Grid Co, Director General, Ghana Atomic Energy Commission, the Programs Director, GIZ renewable energy, the Ambassador of the Norwegian embassy, the Ambassador, Italian Embassy, the Ambassador, Federal Republic of Germany, the Ambassador, Netherlands embassy and the Ambassador, United States Embassy.
The rest are the Hon Minister, Ministry of Education, the Hon Minister, Ministry of Finance, the Hon Minister, Ministry of Works and Housing and CEOs of various State institutions.
The NEQ which is designed to empower Senior High and Technical Schools with knowledge in the entire energy value chain including petroleum upstream and downstream, power generation, transmission and distribution, focuses on Power, Petroleum and Culture.
It equally aims at educating the youth in both Senior High Schools (SHS) and Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) on the energy sector.
The NEQ is sponsored by the Ghana Oil Company Limited, Ghana Grid Company Limited, The Energy Commission, Ghana Maritime Authority, Ghana National Gas Company Limited and the Petroleum Commission.
The annual competition which is run under the auspices of Nananom of the Eastern Regional House of Chiefs, is jointly organized by Eastern Star Awards Co. Limited in partnership with the Conference of Heads of Assisted Secondary Schools (CHASS) and coordinated in collaboration with the Ghana Education Service and the Ministry of Energy.
