The Member of Parliament-elect for the Gomoa Central constituency, Kwame Asare Obeng, also known as A Plus, has shared details of his meeting with the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the proposals made to him regarding a potential alignment with the party in the Ninth Parliament.

In a post on January 5, 2025, A Plus said during the meeting, the NPP, led by outgoing Assin Central MP Kennedy Agyapong, made several intriguing proposals, including a commitment not to contest the Gomoa Central parliamentary seat in the 2028 election.

“The NPP, led by Hon. Kennedy Agyapong, has officially approached me to discuss aligning with them in Parliament. Their proposal includes several significant agreements, such as a commitment that they will not contest the Gomoa Central seat in the 2028 election,” A Plus shared.

He also mentioned that the National Democratic Congress (NDC) had scheduled a meeting with him on January 6, 2025, to discuss his potential alignment with their caucus.

"The NDC, with whom I genuinely wish to align, has also invited me for a meeting tomorrow at 8 a.m. While I have friends in both the NDC and NPP, they have to understand that I will have to disappoint someone tomorrow,” he stated.

Outlining his conditions for collaborating with any party, A Plus emphasised that he would align with a party only if their proposals prioritised his interests and the needs of his constituents.

“Let me make this simple and clear: deep down, my heart leans toward the NDC, but I will ultimately side with whoever has my interests at heart and provides the best offer for me and the people of Gomoa Central,” he added.

Kwame Asare Obeng won the Gomoa Central parliamentary seat as an independent candidate in the 2024 general elections.

He secured a total of 14,277 votes, defeating his NPP opponent, Naana Eyiah Quansah, who garnered 11,637 votes, with A-Plus leading by over 2,000 votes.
