NPP’s Alhaji Short drops out of chairmanship race

One of the persons vying for the chairmanship position in the New Patriotic Party, Alhaji Abubarkari Abdul-Rahman popularly known as Alhai Short has bowed out of the race.

A statement signed by his Campaign Manager, Kwabena Marfo said his boss stepped down “after long introspection and consideration.”

“I believe my withdrawal will best serve the interest of the party,” the statement added.

He further in the statement apologised to his supporters.

“To all my supporters and sympathisers, I want to thank you for your support. To the grassroots of our party who wished me well, thank you for your encouragement. And to all the members of my team, I thank you for your dedication. To all and sundry, I apologise for any inconvenience my decision have caused you.”

This brings the number of persons vying for the NPP Chairmanship position to four.

They are acting Chairman of the NPP, Freddie Worsemawu Blay, Stephen Ayensu Ntim, Dr Richard Amoako Baah and David Kankam Boadu.

Mr. Marfo in an interview on Eyewitness News said Alhaji Short has not yet thrown his weight behind any of the remaining aspirants.

Over 40 people to contest eight NPP national executive positions

Over 40 people are currently vying to hold various executive positions in the NPP.

Vetting of the aspirants began on Monday, May 28, 2018, with that of Chair aspirants slated for today, Friday.

The NPP is expected to hold its National Delegates Conference in July 2015 to elect their national executives.

On Thursday, 31st May 2018, I served notice of my withdrawal from the national chairmanship race of our party, the New Patriotic Party. After long introspection and consideration, I believe my withdrawal will best serve the interest of the party.
