Mr. Benjamin Adjei, the Head of Opamoa family of Bodada-Buen has called on the people of Buem Traditional Area, the Government and Ghanaians not to recognize one Eric Ofori who potrays himself as Nana Aburam Akpandja V, the Paramount chief of Buem Traditional Area because he is not heir to the throne.
He said the nomination, selection and enstoolment of Eric Ofori was completely an abomination and disturbance of the dynamics of the Opamoa family. The Head of Opamoa family described the conduct of Nana Amankrado Boampong Theodore of Bodada who played a crucial role in the selection and masterminded enstoolment of Eric Ofori as paramount chief as “ignorant.”
By the requirement of paragraph 1/Section 1 of the LI. 1979 of 2010, Mr. Adjei said, the Opamoa house is now required to present a candidate for enstoolment. However without adequate consultation and consensus, he said, the then Head of Opamoa family, Mr. Theodore Osahene secretly forwarded the name of Eric Ofori to be considered for enstoolment.
When the abovementioned information got to Opamoa family, he said, Mr. Osahene was summoned to a meeting. Mr. Osahene, according to Mr Adjei, admitted forwarding the name of Eric Adjei without the knowledge of Opamoa family and especially the “Obaa Panyin”, ”stool father” as well as the Youth leader.
As a result of the flouting the nomination, selection and enstoolment process of a person to be installed as the Paramount chief of Buem Traditional Area a, the Head of Opamoa family, said Mr Osahene was removed from office and replaced by Benjamin Kwame Adjei . This, he said, was accompanied with the necessary customary rights.
Inspite of appeals to the Amankrado to stay proceeding until the input of Opamoa family and their Obaa Panyin, Mr Adjei said, the Amankrado went ahead to enstool Eric Ofori, though from Opamoa family but not in line to be a chief. Customary and historical information available indicates that two lines of Opamoa family who can ascend the status of a chief completely are the Opam and Agyei including Adjei lines.
According to sources, the grandfather of Eric Ofori settled at Bodada and sought refuge with one of Opamoa grandfathers. His grandfather had since been a protégée of the Opamoa family.
On Saturday March 2nd, 2019, the late Omanhene of the Buem Traditional Area was laid to rest after his demise about two years ago hence the need to install a new chief.
Mr. Adjei said “we of the Opamoa family are hereby advising members of the Executive arm of Government and the general public not to behave in a manner that escalate the issues involved, as this matter is before a judicial committee of the Volta Regional House of Chief in Ho.”
On Saturday March 2nd, 2019, the late Omanhene of the Buem Traditional Area, Nana Aburam Akpandja IV, the recent occupant of Abram Akpandza stool passed on in October, 2017 and was buried on 2nd March, 2019 hence the need to install a new chief.
