Actress and socialite Efia Odo has challenged the Deputy Communications Director for the New Patriotic Party, Jennifer Oforiwaah Queen, over her statements regarding burnt party flags during the #OccupyJulorbiHouse protest in Accra on September 22, 2024.

In an interview on UTV, Queen criticised how the protestors expressed their grievances, stating, "If you want to tell the government you are not pleased with his ruling, this is not the way to go, how can you burn the party flag of the ruling government and also block roads to prevent users and you want the police to watch you idle.”

In response to this, Efia Odo questioned NPP supporters, asking if they were more concerned about the burning of party flags than the deformities in unborn babies caused by illegal mining (galamsey).

She particularly condemned the NPP’s Deputy Communications statements saying, "So you’re more angry with protestors burning flags than babies being born deformed due to ongoing years of galamsey?

“How do these older women reason? Communities are being poisoned, yet that doesn’t upset you? Ei."

The #OccupyJulorbiHouse protesters were arrested during their demonstration which took place in Accra.

The arrests followed a three-day protest at the 37 military Roundabout, where demonstrators raised concerns about illegal small-scale mining (galamsey) and economic mismanagement.

On Sunday, September 22, tensions escalated as a major confrontation occurred between protesters from Democracy Hub and the Ghana Police Service, marking the second day of the demonstrations.
