The 2020 Presidential Candidate of the People’s National Convention (PNC), David Apasera, has been accused of issuing death threats to some members of the National Executive Committee (NEC) over the internal wrangling that has engulfed the opposition party lately.

He is also said to have sent some men to the party’s headquarters on Thursday, September 9 to prevent other officials from accessing their offices.

Speaking to journalists in Accra, embattled General Secretary Janet Asana Nabla said Mr Apasera has taken the laws into his hands to act arbitrarily without recourse to the constitution of the party.

She said he has threatened to kill some regional chairmen who do not kowtow to his schemes.

“The night before they came [for a meeting], he threatened them that he is going to do this, I will kill you, I will do this to you,” she said.

“The Eastern Regional Chairman was threatened with death threats. The Savannah Regional Chairman was threatened. The Northern Regional Chairman was threatened by Hon. Apasera that he will kill them if they come to the NEC meeting and they told him that we were there with [the late founder Dr Hilla] Limann before you came. You are too small to tell us that.”

The wrangling within the party was cranked up following the supposed suspension by Ms Nabla as General Secretary of the party.

But she insisted that there was no quorum at the meeting that took that decision.

“I am still in charge,” she stressed, announcing that she has petitioned the NEC for redress.

The former Bolgatanga Member of Parliament is said to continue to hold himself as leader of the party nine months after the presidential elections.

On Tuesday, September 7 after three members of the party filed a petition against him, a decision was reached to remove him and the National Chairman, Moses Dani Baah, from the party.

Ms Nabla claims before the petition was heard Mr Apasera begged the members of NEC over his decision to oust her from her position but later resorted to the issuance of death threats.

“On the day before we were supposed to go for the NEC meeting, in the night around 5 o’clock, he said he was swearing somebody in as a General Secretary. Do you know that in our constitution the leader has no power? He doesn’t have any power and me too I don’t have power,” she said.
