Accra, Nov. 25, GNA - Mr. Kofi Portuphy on Friday confirmed that he would contest the position of National Organiser of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) saying he would lead
the party to break new grounds in its membership drive. "The pivot of our party organisation must be to win the 2008 elections," he said in a statement released in Accra. "We need to develop a (corps) of party polling officials who will be very professional about polling about duties."
Mr. Portuphy said the party must encourage loyalists to recognise that their excellent campaign messages, not withstanding, "it is only our clear understanding of what happens on polling day and at the polling station in particular that will bring the smiles back our faces."
He said in the past, the party paid dearly for its failure to solve the problems of organisation both at the top and the bottom of the ladder.
"We must solve all problems arising from our party organisation with a feeling of great responsibility. Party work should be done in a new fashion with new initiatives and a high sense of responsibility to enable us to accomplish the task by putting new methods to work." He said the task facing the party called for rededication and recommitment that would see the re-emergence of devoted and selfless party organisers who would avoid bureaucracy and be practical in harnessing the potentials of members.
Mr Portuphy said they must identify the potentials of the youth in the party and begin to grow them.
