President Akufo-Addo congratulates Isaac Dogboe
The President, Nana Akufo-Addo, has congratulated Ghanaian boxer, Isaac Dogboe, for successfully defending his world title against Japanese challenger, Hidenori Otake.
Dogboe knocked out his challenger in round one to defend his WBO super bantamweight title last Saturday in the US to improve his record to 20-0, 13 KOs.
In a message shared on his Instagram page, the President wished the 23-year-old world champion the best of luck in his future endeavours and stated how proud Ghanaian were for that feat.
“Warm congratulations to the Royal Storm, Isaac Dogboe, on his successful defence of his WBO super bantamweight title against Hidenori Otake.
“The Ghanaian public are proud of him and wish him the very best of luck in the future”, the President wrote.
The Royal Storm, as Dogboe is affectionately called, after the victory called on boxers in his weight category - Rey Vargas and Danny Roman - to emerge from their hideout to face him.
“Now, I want to face all the champs. Let’s do this! I’m ready to unify all the titles,” he said. “I want all the champions out there, Rey Vargas, Danny Roman. Step up to the plate, let’s make this happen. They should come forward and make a great fight. Champions should fight the best.”
The vice-president of Top Rank, a boxing promotional company, Carl Moretti, who was thrilled by Dogboe’s prowess after the fight confirmed to ESPN that the young Ghanaian boxer could be back in the ring before the end of the year.
“I thought it was going to be a long rest after this fight because I thought we were in for a long fight, but given what happened, I’d like to get him in by the end of the year,” Top Rank vice president Carl Moretti said of Dogboe.
