The National Vocational Training Center (NVTC) at Assin Fosu in the Central Region, has began a training session to offer free employment skill training to senior high school graduates in the area.

The training session, which is targeting about 50 youth, forms part of the Center’s corporate social responsibility to tackle unemployment among the youth in the Central Region and to help reduce the migration of the youth to urban areas.

Mr Francis Gyimah, Headmaster of the Centre, who made this known during a Parent Teacher Association (PTA) meeting held at the school’s premises, urged parents to show interest in the education of their wards.

Enumerating some of the challenges confronting the Centre, he said the non-payment of fees by parents is negatively affecting the smooth running of the Centre, adding that, parents owed the Center over GH¢ 48,694.00 in unpaid fees.

“The Centre needs cash to complete the boy’s hostel, buy generator plants and other equipment and to undertake general maintenance, but some parents are not helping this cause”, he noted with concern.

Mr Gyimah said the lack of a fence wall at the Centre has also affected teaching and learning due to the disturbances from neighbouring houses.

Mr Neenyi Kofi Tagoe, the PTA chairman, said technical and vocational education was for all and called on parents to send send their wards to the Centre.

He said the Centre is currently being run with Internally Generated Funds (IGF) and called on benevolent organizations and institutions to come to their aid.
