Psychiatric nurses threaten indefinite strike action

Psychiatric Nurses at the Accra Psychiatric Hospital have threatened an indefinite strike action over government’s failure to provide their facility with the basic logistics needed to carry out their duties effectively.

The Chairperson of the Nurses association, Jamila Hussein says the lack of medication for patients at the facility places the lives of the staff at risk of physical attacks from patients.

According to her the patients are either beating them or they are beating other patients.

Basic logistics such as detergents are also in short supply, leading to infections and the spread of dirt borne diseases.

They have therefore called on government to address these challenges or face the consequences.

The nurses have given government a one week ultimatum to address their concerns, or they will be forced to embark on an indefinite strike.

Meanwhile, Director of Communications at the Mental Health Authority, Kwaku Brobbey has told Adom News his outfit has received a petition from the nurses is and working hard to address them.
