The Bono Regional Chairman of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), Kwame Baffoe popularly known as ‘Abronye DC’ has stated that the pulling of a gun by a supposed mad man identified as Charles Antwi on the former President John Dramani was staged.

In July 2015, the 36-year-old man was arrested at the Ringway branch of the Assemblies of God Church with a weapon hidden in his under pants.

There were claims he attempted to assassinate Mr Mahama but the NDC claims it was staged by the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to win sympathy votes prior to the 2016 general elections.

According to him, the action was to paint the NPP black as a notorious party which had planned to kill the then President just to allow then Flagbearer Akufo-Addo be at presidency.

This revelation Abronye claimed was made by one of the bigwigs in the NDC, who explained that sensing danger of losing the 2016 elections, they schemed a plan to attract some sympathy votes by sending the mad man in the church to threaten Mr Mahama.

Abronye said reports from the grounds indicated that the then Mahama administration was no more attractive to voters and will be booted out of power hence the strategy which didn’t materialized because discerning Ghanaians had taken their decisions already to vote for the NPP.

It will be recalled that Charles Antwi on July 26, 2015 was arrested for pulling a gun on the President during a Sunday church service with his family at Ringway Estate Gospel Centre of the Assemblies of God Church.

The mad man who was arraigned before court said he should have been sworn in as President after the death of the former President John Evans Atta Mills and not Mr Mahama who was the then Vice President.

But speaking on Oman FM monitored by MyNewsGh.com, Abronye claimed, ‘the mad man who pulled a gun to kill the then former President John Mahama was staged. I’m telling you, they sent the supposed mad man in order to win some sympathy votes because they were scared of losing the 2016 general elections. One of the national executives revealed this secret to me over the weekend’.

The NDC lost massively to NPP during the 2016 elections.
