Retract and apologize to NDC women - Hanna Bissiw tells Abronye DC

The National Women’s Organiser of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Dr Hanna Louisa Bissiw, has asked Kwame Baffoe a.k.a Abronye DC to render an unqualified apology to the women of her party.

Abronye DC who serves as the Chairman of the Bono Region of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) stated on Net 2 TV that the NDC women are pickpockets that is why their own [NDC] Deputy National Organiser married an NPP lady instead of NDC.

“You know Chief Biney is an auctioneer. Anytime he takes the NDC ladies home, they rob him but Maame Afia Akoto is not like that, that’s why he wants to marry her… Some of the NDC women are pickpockets. NPP women are not like that."

But reacting to the Abronye’s statement, Dr. Bissiw stated, “We are by this statement, calling on Mr. Baffoe to, as a matter of urgency, retract this irresponsible comment and apologise to the women of the National Democratic Congress. Our women are people of enviable repute and would not countenance any efforts at denigrating their persons.”

It has come to our attention, comments made on Net2 TV by the Bono Regional Chairman, Kwame Baffoe known as Abronye DC, on the decision by our Deputy National Organizer Chief Hamilton Biney known mainly as Chief Biney to marry Mrs. Afia Akoto of the New Patriotic Party who doubles as the Deputy Chief Executive Officer of the Microfinance and Small Loans Centre (MASLOC).

In his comment, Mr. Baffoe made disparaging comments about women of the National Democratic Congress (NDC). We see the comments as unfortunate especially coming from a man who should know better. As a Regional Chairman of the ruling party, we expected higher standards of engagement from him.

While we congratulate Chief Hamilton Biney for the bold step taken to take a wife, and while we state that we have no problem about his choice of political affiliation to marry from, we would not take any irresponsible comment about NDC women in this regard.

We are by this statement, calling on Mr. Baffoe to, as a matter of urgency, retract this irresponsible comment and apologise to the women of the National Democratic Congress. Our women are people of enviable repute and would not countenance any efforts at denigrating their persons.

Failure to act on the demands of this press release, we would be left with no option than to adopt means that would drive our revulsion at the conduct and comments of Mr. Baffoe.
