Ghana’s International Boxing Federation (IBF) lightweight champion, Richard Oblitey Commey, has been ranked third best in the division by cable television network, ESPN, after his eighth round stoppage win over Raymundo Beltran on June 28.
Commey is currently ranked behind Ukraine’s WBA and WBO lightweight titlist, Vasyl Lomachenko, and former WBC champion, Mickey Garcia in a list released by ESPN.
In a top ten list which was announced by the broadcast right holders of Top Rank Promotions, Robert Easter Jnr, Jose Pedraza, Luke Campbell, Teofimo Lopez, Rances Barthelemy, Devin Haney and Javier Fortuna finished in the top 10 behind Commey.
The Ghanaian is undefeated in his last five bouts with four consecutive knockout victories since joining experienced American trainer Andre Rozier in the build up to his world title eliminator against Alejandro Luna in March, 2018.
Commey (29-2, 26 KOs) will be hoping to meet the winner of Tefimo Lopez-Masayoshi Nakatani later this year after his first successful title defence over Mexico’s Beltran (36-9-1, 22 KOs) at the Pechanga Resort & Casino in California.
The hard-hitting puncher defeated Russia’s Isa Chaniev in splendid fashion to win the vacant IBF strap in two rounds on February 2 and is expected to make his final ring outing by close of year.
