The Black Satellites are set to depart the country for Togo on Tuesday to participate in the West Africa Football Union (WAFU) U-20 Championship.
Coach Jimmy Cobblah will be taking along a 20-man squad built entirely around home-based players to the tournament, which runs from December 6 -16.
According to the Satellites coach, his team will use the competition as a preparatory ground for next year’s Africa U-20 Cup of Nations to be hosted in Niger.
The Black Satellites will play against Nigeria, Niger and Benin in Group B
In an interview with Graphic Sports Online, Cobblah said he decided to give local players the chance to prove their mettle ahead of the continental campaign next year.
“This is expected to be a preparatory competition for us as a team and I want to give the local players the chance to justify themselves ahead of the African Cup next year.
“We are keen on making a significant impact at the championship but our main objective is to prepare adequately for the continental campaign,” he said.
The national U-20 side will face rivals Nigeria, Niger and Benin in Group B of the WAFU tournament, as coach Cobblah looks to take the opportunity to give new players the chance to excel.
