Managaing Director of the State Transport Corporation (STC), Nana Akomea, has fired shots at Ex-President John Mahama for coming at the President of the Republic, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, during a forum recently held at the University of Ghana.

Ex-President Mahama, speaking at an event organised by the Professionals Forum (PROFORUM) of the NDC in collaboration with the Center for Ethical Governance and Administration (CEGA), appealed to Ghanaians to vote out the governing New Patriotic Party in the 2024 general elections.

“When I called for a change in government in 2024 as the first step towards halting this hemorrhage of badly needed resources through corruption and holding offending officials to account, our friends in government took offense but it remains the only viable way to save the public purse in the face of abundant evidence that nothing will be done about the situation,” he stated.

“ . . most of the gains we made and bequeathed to this government have been eroded and we have been plunged into further economic crisis.”

“COVID-19 has become the convenient whipping boy and has been cited as the reason for the crisis we face now and the attendant economic hardships” but “it is however not the main reason why we are in the current hole we find ourselves. COVID-19 only became a pretext for reckless election-related spending, which produced the largest ever budget deficit in the recent economic history of Ghana last year,” he asserted.

Nana Akomea has challenged the former President to compare records with President Akufo-Addo.

Making his submissions on Tuesday's 'Kokrokoo' programme on Peace FM, he alluded to Mr. Mahama's track record citing his failures that led to his "biggest rejection" by Ghanaians.

He asked Mr. Mahama to show a single social programme he introduced that surpasses President Akufo-Addo's free SHS policy stating, "since the Fourth Republic, no one has done an industrialization programme like what's happening now. Free SHS, when we said we would do it, President Mahama said we can't but today, he says he introduced it. Have you seen the hypocrisy? Can he show us any social programme that he initiated in the eight years when he was Vice President and President which will come close to free SHS?''
