Some of NPP’s 78% fulfilled promises have made no impact – Suhuyini

Member of Parliament for Tamale North, Alhassan Suhuyini says most promises the governing New Patriotic Party claim to have fulfilled have not made any impact.

Speaking on Citi TV’s ‘The Big Issue’, Mr Suhuyini said the president’s suggestion that there hasn’t been any factual challenge to the vice president’s claim that government had completed 78% of the promises made to Ghanaians were inaccurate.

“And I’m also saying that even some of the boxes that they claim they have ticked which you can say yes, they have ticked, the impact that we expect to have is almost non-existent, and in some cases, is rather a threat to the future growth of this country.”

“If the president perhaps stepped out of the world he lives in, he would have noticed that indeed people were doing the fact-checking and people are pointing some of the issues that are incorrect out,” he added.

Adding that Free Senior High School policy, for instance, had been facing infrastructural challenges since implementation, the MP maintained some of the policies said to have been fulfilled by the government were not properly thought through.

“What is worth doing, which is and in the case of getting people to school…is worth doing well. And because it is worth doing well, you don’t just start from somewhere, you start from somewhere that is well. That is why the NDC with careful and meticulous planning thought that there was a need to improve access and then begin somewhere well by making it free for day students as you improve on the infrastructure and others so that you will not have these challenges,” he added.

Alhassan Suhuyini who further noted Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia failed to give a true representation of promises delivered noting that government had actually delivered on just 30% of its promises and not 78%.

“Dr Bawumia himself gave an indication of where we could cross-check some of his presentations which revealed that disappointingly government has so far been able to tick only less than 30% of the boxes in terms of the promises they made to this country,” he said.

He added that the focus of implementing policies should be on the impact government seeks to achieve with them.
