The Flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress, John Dramani Mahama, has criticized the clergy and traditional leaders for failing to hold the NPP government accountable for mismanaging the economy.

Speaking at a mini rally in the Okaikwei North constituency on September 15, 2024, Mahama questioned why traditional leaders fail to address the economic hardships and instead offer praise to the NPP flagbearer, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.

According to him, the clergy, traditional leaders and Civil Society Organizations must unite to hold the government accountable for its poor governance.

“We are all living in this country. We have pastors, imams, chiefs, and Civil Society Organizations here, yet they only seem to have an issue when the NDC complains. We must all come together and unite to hold the government accountable and speak out against the ongoing mismanagement.

“However, when NPP members visit traditional leaders and pastors, the only response they receive is praise, endorsements, and further blessings for their supposed good work, rather than being told the truth about their poor governance. You want to win power with your useless government?” he asked.

Mahama further lamented the level of corruption under the ruling government while expressing his optimism about the NDC’s victory in the December polls.

“The corruption and theft that have occurred under this Akufo-Addo/Bawumia-led government would have led to the overthrow of an NDC government. I have faith that the NDC will emerge victorious in the elections,” he added amid cheers from the crowd.
