St. Mary Guild of Anglican Church installs new national president

Koforidua, Sept. 5, GNA - Mrs Barbara Bernice Opoku, a retired educationist was on Sunday installed as the new national president of the Guild of St. Mary of the Anglican Church at a thanksgiving service at the Koforidua St. Peter's Cathedral.

Ten other national executive members, who were elected at the third national biennial conference of the Guild, were inducted into office at the service, organised to climax the conference, under the theme, "caring, a Christian community".

The executive members included, Mr Oppong Nyantekyi, Secretary, Mrs Felicia Adiyiah, Treasurer and the immediate past National President, Mrs Anastasia Victoria Brown.

Preaching the sermon, the Dean of the St. Peter's Cathedral, Very Rev. Seth Amoako-Adu observed that, the distasteful scenes at the Osu Children's Home, which were aired recently, could have been avoided, if the Ghanaian society had shown a little more care to the orphans and vulnerable children at the home.

He said, the society had to go beyond donations to also be interested in the conditions under which the children and their caretakers leave and not only sit back and play the blame game Very Rev. Amoako-Adu urged the members of the Guild to show more care for the people in their parishes and their community to help the Anglican Church to grow.

The National President of the Guild, Mrs Opoku called for unity among members of the Guild and pleaded with the parish priests to allow the members of the guild to respond to invitations from the leadership even if it meant travelling out of their parishes. The outgoing National President, Mrs Brown called on the incoming executive to promote care for orphanages, the prisons, the vulnerable people in the church and the community .
