‘Stars need a compact midfield’
Ahead of Ghana’s crucial encounter against Germany at the Estadio des Dunas tomorrow, Coach James Cobblah is calling for a compact midfield as the only viable option for Coach Kwasi Appiah.
The Wa All Stars coach said in an interview with the Graphic Sports yesterday that the current state of the Black Stars defence enjoined the technical team to maintain a stronger midfield to frustrate the strong running Germans.
“Our defence in this World Cup is not the best and this is no fault of Kwasi Appiah, because he assembled the best that we have,” he contended.
“In such situations you need to put all your trust in the midfield and this is what I expect Kwasi Appiah to do, he explained.
In this regard Coach Cobblah said there was the need to start Kevin-Prince Boateng to add some bite to the Stars attack.
“With some luck on our side, we shall surmount the German challenge and move on to beat Portugal in our next game”.
Meanwhile, Coach J.E Sarpong of Cape Coast Ebusua Dwarfs has said that tactical superiority of USA over the Black Stars greatly influenced the outcome of the Stars first group match last Monday.
He was also not happy that some key players were played out of their usual position which made it very uncomfortable for some of the players to put in their maximum effort.
Coach Sarpong, who made these observations during a telephone interview with the Graphic Sports, said although the match between Ghana and the USA was a tight one, the Stars performance as not too good.
