The flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama, has branded the governing party as a drift away from the Kufuor era, currently in the grips of a small family.
According to the former president, many of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) supporters are disillusioned by the state of the party, even as they admit the government’s shambolic performance in office.
“I have many friends in the NPP and when I speak with them, they tell me, ‘President Mahama, we know our party hasn’t done a good job since it took office. The economy is in a wreck. However, I’m an NPP member so I can’t vote for you so I won’t vote at all,”, John Mahama disclosed at a campaign stop at Ngleshie Amanfrom in Accra.
He insisted a “small family” was steering the affairs of the party, leading to high disaffection levels among members of the Danquah-Busia-Dombo tradition.
“It’s not really the NPP that is in government. This is not the NPP we know. The party led by President Kufuor was not disorganized like this one,” he sought to remind his listeners.
Mr. Mahama encouraged frustrated members of the governing party to vote the NDC into power in order that in opposition, they could wrest power from the “small family” that has hijacked the party.
