Water shortage hits parts of UG campus, Legon Hall gets temporary supply for residents

Parts of the University of Ghana has been hit by an acute shortage of water.

For several days, students, especially those in traditional halls, have not enjoyed a constant supply of water.

This has left some going days without bathing.

Some of the affected halls include the Legon Hall, Mensah Sarbah Hall, and Akuafo Hall.

In a bid to reduce the effect this situation has brought on its residents, management of the Legon Hall has filled its two reservoir tanks with water as it makes further efforts to normalize the situation.

The tanks, in the interim, are to provide water to the male and females blocks of the main hall as well as its annexes.

A communique from the Junior Common Room advised residents to be “judicious with the use of the water in order not to allow exigencies burden the hall coffers”.

In an interaction with a cross-section of students from some of the affected halls, they have feared for the worst if immediate efforts are not taken to solve the problem.

“I don’t know what is happening. Since Sunday [February 2], the water supply has been unstable. The reservoir tanks have been helping but anytime you go there, the queue is so long that you decide to give up. Something must be done urgently to solve this,” a resident of the Akuafo Hall told UniversNews.

Authorities are yet to comment on the matter.
