The recent invitation by the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service, calling on National Democratic Congress (NDC) National Chairman Samuel Ofosu Ampofo to assist in a case of kidnapping and recent fire outbreaks in the country has been described by Asiedu Nketia, General Secretary of the NDC as "open oppression" from the CID.

Samuel Ofosu Ampofo, National Chairman of the main opposition party was invited again by the security agencies on Wednesday.

“The Criminal Investigations Department of the Ghana Police Service has commenced investigations into cases of kidnapping and fire outbreaks in various parts of the country. Intelligence gathered indicates that some of these kidnappings and fire outbreaks are being orchestrated by unidentified groups, persons and individuals.

Some of the persons picked up for interrogation and investigation have mentioned your name as part of a grand scheme designed to cause fear and panic in the country,” a portion of a communique from the CID read.

But commenting on the invitation of the CID on Okay FM’s Ade Akye Abia Morning show, the NDC Chief Scribe told the host Kwame Nkrumah Tikese that “in this country, our constitution, the national anthem, and the national pledge say that we should resist oppressor’s rule”.

“We will know what to do when we get there…and so if your conduct is seeming to be that you are no longer thinking about Ghanaians but you are thinking about oppression, you will have the appropriate response”, he fumed.

Going into the substantive case, Mr. Johnson Asiedu Nketia demanded to know the identity of the arrested kidnapper and arsonist whom the police claimed named mentioned Ofosu Ampofo as his accomplice.

“Who have you arrested? Is it the same person who has been jailed for escaping from police custody? Even that person who has been jailed is meant to deceive the public because he was not jailed for kidnapping...

“…he was jailed for escaping from police custody and not kidnapping. So Tiwaa Addo Danquah, who has she arrested for kidnapping and what did that person tell her? The person she claimed to have arrested has not been named. She has fabricated a story that the anonymous person she has arrested person has incriminated Ofosu Ampofo....Who is that person?” he inquired.
