Yacouba double nails Hearts

Burkinabe international, Songne Yacouba, on Sunday, August 26 became the hero of Kumasi Asante Kotoko when he scored two brilliant goals at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi to power Kotoko to defeat Hearts in the first leg of their two legs friendly encounters.

Yacouba connected a rebound shot from Obed Owusu in the 39th minute after a balanced first half game dubbed: " the clash of the titans."

The striker increased the woes of Hearts in the 61st minute to give Kotoko a deserving victory in a match that attracted many football fans .

In spite of the little publicity, fans of both sides thronged the stadium in their numbers having been starved from the local game for the past three months following ace investigative journalist expose of corrupt practices in the local game leading to the dissolution of the FA.

The long absence of the players on the field did not affect their play as they displayed much match fitness .

The introduction of Patrick Razak brought some urgency in Hearts attack ,but just then Robert Addo was shown the exit after two yellow cards on the 60th minute.

Moments after Addo’s exit, Yacouba added another from a personal brilliance from a fast break to offer the fans something to cheer about.

After the second goal, Kotoko took total control of the game and literally strolled with some scintillating inter positional play, forcing Hearts to chase their shadows.

Yacouba should have registered a hat trick in the box 80th minute, but with only goal keeper Ernest Sowah at his mercy he wasted the glorious opportunity to give Hearts a breathing space.

The two sides will clash again in a return match in Accra, and the winners of the two leg encounters will take home a trophy and an undisclosed cash prize.
