The founder and leader of Kharis Church in the United Kingdom, Pastor David Antwi has said that anyone who plays instruments in church and collects money is a thief.

According to him in a video sighted online by GhanaWeb, such people are cousins of satan.

The man of God, speaking as a guest speaker at the Global Revival Ministries in Ghana said: “You are a thief if you play church instrument[s] and you collect money, you are a thief. Satan's cousin!”

Pastor David Antwi quickly quoted 1 Corinthians 9:16 to defend his statement.

1 Corinthians 9:16 reads "For when I preach the gospel, I cannot boast, since I am compelled to preach. Woe to me if I do not preach the gospel!"

"Some people are band boys, they move around playing and collecting money. You guys can play very nicely but if you are unemployed, seek employment elsewhere and also work for God," he told the instrumentalist[s] in his church.

He added that it is far better to be employed somewhere else and also working in the church for God.

"That shows that you're committed to God."

Pastor Antwi said the assertion that Pastors are paid monthly salaries because they preach the gospel is very erroneous.

"...Who told you Pastors are paid because they preach. Pastors are not paid for preaching...then some people shouldn't be paid because their preaching is bad," he said.

He then encouraged the instrumentalists at the Global Revival Ministries in Ghana to pray for the Lord's necessity to be laid upon them for the work they do in the church, for their future will be greater.

"Some of us are opportunists, it looks like you're here to help but you're here to grab...this work is heart work," he noted.

REJOINDER: The Kharis Communications Team in an email to GhanaWeb has corrected that Pastor David Antwi delivered the sermon at the Global Revival Ministries in Ghana and not his church in the United Kingdom. He spoke in the capacity as a guest speaker at a programme at the Global Revival Ministries in Ghana. GhanaWeb apologises for any inconveniences caused
