Sekondi (W/R), Sept. 9, GNA 97 Mr Paul Evans Aidoo, Western Regional Minister, has appealed to contractors to speed up work on educational infrastructure in senior high schools (SHS) in the Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolis.
This, he said, has become necessary since public SHSs are due to re-open next week to admit fresh students. He charged the school heads to make provision for temporal accommodation for fresh students, especially at schools where dormitories are under construction.
Mr Aidoo made the call during an inspection tour of some on-going projects at Sekondi College, Ahantaman and Archbishop Porter Girls' Senior high schools on Thursday. "I don't want the situation that happened last year where some first year female students were accommodated in private hostels and got pregnant and created a lot of problems for school authorities and their parents, 93he added.
The Regional Minister advised the school heads to liaise with members of their boards and Parent/Teacher Associations to address some of the infrastructure challenges.
He expressed satisfaction at the progress of work at Sekondi College and Ahantaman Senior High Schools and spoke against the slow pace of work at Archbishop Porter Girls' SHS. He charged the contractor to speed up work on the girls' dormitory and the classroom block. The various infrastructural projects became necessary following the increase of the duration of the SHS academic calendar from three years to four years with funding from the Ghana Education Trust Fund. 9 Sept. 11
