As a beneficiary of the trainee teacher allowance I am sad to see the end of it. I hope teachers would henceforth be paid like other public servants. We were paid less than our counterparts in the public services because the service of the teacher was said to be priceless. I guess we tolerated it because we were literally paid to be trained. Without that incentive teachers would now demand equal pay with other services.

our so called fake president and his idiotic fools continue to display to the whole world their incompetence and stupidity. he goes running around looking for investors or money when all it takes is prudent and sound macroeconomic policy implementation. we shall list a few examples so its even clear to the sick warped minded ndc agent provocateurs here. we borrow billions to procure finished products or give the juiciest parts of contracts to foreigners instead of just taking a little effort and organize our economy better. instead of building modern 100 meter fishing boats for our fishermen , manufacturing our own tractors for our farmers , mining equipment and trucks for galamsay miners and so on . we choose to import 2 thirds of our fish requirement , hand over these gold and other mineral concessions to foreigners who dont invest in our economy , deny the farmers the over half a million tractors and other agric mechanization needed because are leaders are too selfish and lazy to take the well-being of our people to heart . instead of encouraging and facilitating the return of our diaspora so they give our ailing economy the boost and capital we can surely count on , we treat them dirt and frustrate them so much that most return . they would rather have Chinese , Arab/Muslim money as there they get a kickback. they can not understand the need to unite all potentials in order to attain development , industrialization and new 21st century jobs for OUR own people , rather prefer that we import everything and keep our people in poverty as in their wicked hearts saturated and drenched with hatred of the Akans , hegemony , tribalism , favoritism and material greed. the only consolation we have is that today our people now see very clearly what these political impostors are all about and are getting more and more determined to get rid of them either by war or a revolution. all the institutions of the state have failed us including the judiciary , parliament . they have secured a privileged status for themselves and deny the majority free education although its within our reach as a 20 pesewa levy on petrol would secure the funds for this in less than 6 months so its started now and not vaguely postponed to the indefinite future . how can these fools think we should sit aside and applaud their non action ? we live in this purgatory of despair and now they want to force down our throats gay sodomizing perverse morals as their ideal . each day they continue with this jolly ride of profound stupidity they earn our deeper resentment and hate of their actions . our day will come soon , long live the republic of Akan

There are equally very poor people in the other parts of the country that do not enjoy this facility. It is time we treat all Ghanaians fairly and equally. We must scrap this program or it is spread across the country and adopt means tested. Simple! If Ayariga or Mahama chooses to educate his children in the north it is free but if that poor single parent in Saltpond for instance does, it is not. What an injustice. Let be fair to one another. We are one people with one destiny so why this discrimination. Long live Ghana.

I think the President is ill advised. He seems to be prodded to adopt programs that might otherwise work well but for their timing and proper targets.
You are very right that many of these Teacher Trainees take up that Education for the allowance which serves for initial financial survival.
I was, similarly, drawn to Forestry by the allowance received at School, at a time in my life when my father was in exile and my mother had fallen sick. We were six kids that she wanted to see all fairly well Educated. So, studying elsewhere without such financial help was not so assuring to me. I chose between Post-Secondary Teachers Education and Forestry/Agric Training.
The allowance withdrawal will hurt not only our kids in school but also many Youths who could find a financial refuge in that facility to pursue further Education and livelihood.

Oh, some Ghanaians would always disgrace themselves, their families, communities and the nation to the full glare of the whole world. So you think Government would just wake up one day and stop this allowance payment without diligent study of the pros and cons with empirical figures to prove the need for such a shift? This issue has been in the pipeline for a long time with Government upon Government not implementing it because of lack of political will.
The president has suggested other ways to resource the trainee teachers. Are the students different from other tertiary education students taking students' loan? The Canadian Government that used to offer grants for the allowances withdrew and government took over, so it is time to face a modern Ghana with pragmatic and smart policies not politics.
Don't get me wrong, for I am not insulting you but stating the facts facing some Ghanaians

They have never been. They use that description only to lure the poor workers for votes. It is a typical "Animal Farm" they are running.
Who cares for any zombie Commie Leftism today anyway? Even China and Russia are steadily pulling out of that System. The reality is that every progressive Nation ought to have a reasonable mix of Social programs graduated along with varying and deepening Capitalism.
Even the USA has and adheres to some Social programs to cater for those who fall through the cracks. However, our Politicians only sing the lullaby of utopian Socialism to sedate all the rest, and aggressively pursue unbridled, laissez-faire capitalism to fill their personal pockets at our expense.
Preaching Socialism to quell the appetite of the majority for wealth while exclusively practicing Capitalism to satiate their corruption is the name of the game.
We must demand our fair share to use for seed money to compete with these crooks in a healthy Capitalism, not a skewed one.

Eventually, Ghanaians may come to understand that no country can survive with massive freebies for her Citizens, especially, with high rate of population Growth. We may even come to forgive our underperforming political leaders for failing to sustain a significant portion of the amenities that Nkrumah's regime provided them to inspire the pursuit for higher Education so that our younger generations might enjoy a little bit.
But it is very wrong to start any belt-tightening with our most essential Professionals like Teachers, Professors, Doctors and Nurses. It is wrong to balance the perforated Budget on their aching backs, insomuch as to deny them their pay and allowances, while maintaining bloated ex-gratia and other undeserving benefits for the Politicians in Parliament and the Executive positions.
Why not start with cutting the fat off the many allowances given you and your inept bunch in the Administration? Even a quarter reduction in your benefits could help keep the Teacher Trainee allowances.
This cut is nothing that could correct the corruption eating millions of dollars out of our coffers. If proper management at SSNIT and it's associated investment entities like the Merchant Bank were exacted, we could build a pool of resources from which these Teacher Trainees could be paid to facilitate their Education.
There seems to be a misplaced priority, here. Retrieve all the monies from the robber barons as the Courts ordered before attempting to wreck the financial stability of the poor workers.
Shame unto you fat thieves!!! Let the President forfeit all traveling allowances and other per diem for the rest of his term in addition to the cut in salary he proposed a while back. Let all MPs begin to pay for their own transportation and living costs; let them all start driving their own vehicles and pay for their fuel. No chauffeurs. No Government vehicles for private events, etc. then, and only then, could the President begin to consider cutting the allowances for the Teacher Trainees. The number of Deputy Ministers also must be trimmed.
Long Live Ghana!!!!

Mr presedent, it is very shocking to have heard you treat ordinary citizens this way. You should have been the last person to suggest that students should not receive allowances while in school. If you are serious just ask send out expert to ask teacher trainees if they wanted to be teachers in the first place. All of them are there because the allowances help them for further studies and better jobs. This is the same reason for which Northerners do pay fees in up to high school. The allowances make them sign the bond to remain in teaching for a period of years. If you think scrapping it will help get numbers an keep them in the schools, then you have already failed. Apart from the fact that the schools can never exceed current intake levels, you do not also have the gut to force teachers to stay forever in the job because they paid their own training fees. You should know as well that, when students successfully finish their training by paying out of their pockets, you will have it difficult to pay high salaries at the entry level. Even in the UK and USA, student willing to teach giving monies to pay for their tuition, yet teachers leave the class for better jobs. You will rather worsen the situation than solving it.
