Mr Cassiel Ato Forson, Deputy Minister of Finance has advised officials of Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA), to be innovative and developed new ways that revenue could be generated to meet their target.

He said, the dwindling profits of some of the large taxpayers companies as those in the mining sector makes it imperative for a new ideas to be developed by the GRA as it cannot continue to fail in meeting its set targets.

Mr Forson said this on Tuesday when he embarked on an unexpected visit to some of the offices of the Domestic Tax Revenue Division of GRA in Accra and Tema to interact with the staff and encouraged them to do more to be able to achieve its target for the year.

The Deputy Minister visited the Large Taxpayers office in Adabraka, the Small Taxpayers office at the Ringway Estate and the Medium Taxpayers office in Spintex and Tema.

He said, even though the mining sector is facing challenges, other sectors as the Service, is making significant progress and it is important that more taxes are charged from the sector.

He said there should also be the widening of the tax net whilst tax efficiency and effectiveness is employed.

Mr Forson urged officials of GRA to eschew any corrupt act as government is also prepared to give them their bonus at end of the year, including other mouthwatering packages if they meet their target.

He said Ghana is a now middle income country and is, therefore, not going to benefit from some of the things it was enjoying when it was classified as less developed country.

Mr Forson, therefore, called for a team work and dedication to duty by staff of GRA to enable government raised enough revenue to provide for the social needs of the people.

Mr Kaleo Rogation, Head of Large Taxpayers Office, expressed the hope that GRA would be able to meet its target for the year.
