The Africa Pharmaceutical Summit, an event concept that focuses on the pharmaceutical industry across the African continent is scheduled to be held in Accra on September 10 – 12, 2014.

For the first time since the summit’s creation, Accra will host the event which will see players in the pharmaceutical industry and other key stakeholders assembling at the plush Mövenpick Ambassador Hotel to deliberate on the industry and the way forward.

Also running alongside the summit will be the Pharmatech Africa Exhibition, which will have pharmaceutical products, formulation, raw materials, active ingredients, processing machinery, packaging machinery and equipment on display.

The summit will offer companies a valuable networking opportunity to dialogue with key public and private sector leaders, exchange ideas and information, and discuss new opportunities for their businesses. This year’s summit agenda includes a diverse spectrum of issues covering the pharmaceutical value chain.

Speaking on the rationale behind the summit, Miles Mudzviti, Managing Director of the organizing company, PharmaAfrica, says “Africa Pharmaceutical Summit will place emphasis on interaction between participants to facilitate an open venue for debate on issues affecting the pharmaceutical industry in Africa with the objective to promote dialogue and collaborative relationships across the public and private sectors.”

He also underlined the importance of holding the summit alongside the exhibition saying “by combining the two events, we aim to provide a comprehensive opportunity for stakeholders to interact, exchange, network and share ideas.”

For individuals, the exhibition encourages professional development with learning programmes scheduled throughout the event. “Expanding professional knowledge and specialist training is critical to the long term sustainability and viability of the pharmaceutical industry. It is essential to keep skills sharpened in order to maintain continuous innovation and remain competitive within the stringent environment of the pharmaceutical industry,” Mudzviti added.

Educational and professional development workshops and technical seminars will as well take place on Friday September 12. Organized by various international bodies and companies, the events will be on the following themes “Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP),” “Generic drug formulation development” and “Pharmaceutical grade sugar.”
