The 28-year-old says he wants to be at the next World Cup in Russia in 2018 after leading Ghana’s attack in three World Cup tournaments

Ghana Captain, Asamoah Gyan says he is targeting another World Cup stint in Russia after appearing in three tournaments.

The 28-year-old who has 12 World Cup caps under his belt is already looking at making amends for Ghana’s first round exit at the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.

“No doubt about it,” Gyan said, in response to whether he wants to play at the next World Cup.

“The fact is we’ve got a very young team, we’re still learning and we have a great future ahead of us. I’m one of the most experienced players in the team and I know we can come back and take the world by storm, just like we did in 2010. We’ve definitely got the talent to do that.”

Gyan is now Africa’s highest scorer at the World Cup after taking his tally to six goals.

The Al Ain striker is counting on an injury-free period to put him shape for more tournaments ahead of him.

“Obviously I’d love to play in another World Cup.

“I’m 28 and I’m hoping to maintain my form over the next four years. If we qualify for Russia, it goes without saying that I want to be there. I hope God can protect me from injuries,” Gyan added.

Ghana finished their group campaign in Brazil with just one point. The Black Stars previously reached the round of 16 at Germany 2006 and the quarter-finals in South Africa four years ago.
