On the wet Wednesday evening of May 9, 2001, then President, John Agyekum Kufuor and his New Patriotic Party (NPP) Government, superintended over the death of some 126 soccer fans at the Accra Sport Stadium.

For very evil and parochial partisan reason, the Kufuor administration watched idly while innocent Ghanaians were murdered in cold blood.

In the wake of the cold-blood murder, Kufuor and his then Chief of Staff, Jake Otanka Obetsebi-Lamptey, set up a Stadium Disaster Fund to supposedly raise funds to cater for families of the victims.

To create the false impression that the Kufuor administration was interested in compensating the families of the disaster victims, the Sam Okudjeto Commission was also set up to look into the issue.

In spite of the recommendations of the Okudjeto Commission - for the Government to compensate the families of the May 9 disaster victims, no such thing was done.

To date, Kufuor and Obetsebi-Lamptey have not been able to comprehensively account for the huge sums of monies that accrued to the Fund.

It would be recalled that, Mr. Charles Kofi Wayo, during that period, openly accused Jake of dipping his hands into the Fund.

Fourteen (14) years down the line, the former CEO of Asante Kotoko, Mr. Herbert Mensah, is also calling for Kufuor and O-Lamptey to account for the huge monies that accrued to the Disaster Fund.
