Deputy Finance Minister, Kwaku Kwarteng has asked the Customs Service Division of the Ghana Revenue Authority to beef up their game in securing a conducive environment for international trade.

Mr. Kwarteng who was speaking at the World Custom Day held in Accra said, there will be an inevitable increase in the volume of international trade accompanied by increase in international investments and standards.

Speaking on the theme, “A Secure Business Environment for Economic Development”, he said the Custom Service must work towards enhancing the successful movement of goods and services at the ports.

"The processes and procedures for the importation, exportation and clearance of goods must be convenient, timely and certain” he noted.

Mr. Kwarteng admonished personnel to desist from corrupt practices and ensure security at the ports by reducing the clearing time and processes as well as removing all barriers to trade.

According to him, the longer goods stay at the ports during the clearance processes, the more insecure they become.

“They are exposed to theft, aid bribery and corruption and they are exposed to harsh weather” he stated while congratulating the service for their work done so far.
