The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service has requested management of Accra-based Happy FM to provide the recordings and other materials pertaining to comments made by Deputy General Secretary of the NDC, Koku Anyidoho.

In a letter signed by the Director of CID, DCOP Maame Yaa Tiwaa Addo-Danquah, the CID asked the Chief Operations Officer of the radio station to provide the recordings to aid an ongoing investigation into the “treasonable” comment of Koku Anyidoho.

“It would be appreciated if you could provide a certified copy of the recordings and the transcript including video on your ‘Apahoa-daben’ show aired on 26th March 2018,” portions of the CID letter read.

The CID is also requesting for the release of the host of the said show for questioning with regards to the ongoing investigation.

“We would also be grateful if you could release the host of the programme Mr. Kwame Affrifah to confer with the Director of CID Operations, Assistant Commissioner of Police Mr. Joseph Oklu Gyamerah to assist in the ongoing investigation.”

Koku Anyidoho had threatened on the show that Ghana’s president Nana Akufo-Addo would suffer the fate of his father who was ousted in 1972 in a military coup.

A day after the comment was made on Happy FM, the NDC General Secretary was picked up by some security personnel while he was at a press conference at the International Press Center in Accra.

He was sent to the Police Headquarters and subsequently charged for treason in accordance with Section 182 (b) of the Criminal and other Offence Acct 1960 (Act 9) as amended in 2012, Act 849.
