The Ga Central Municipal Director of National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE), Cynthia Anima Boadu has urged Ghanaians to view the commission with a third eye as one of the priority institutions of the state as that is the only way to truly grow and merge our democracy for development.
This, she said, will enable Citizens to actively participate and appreciate their responsibilities as they will be fully empowered with the requisite knowledge.
Speaking at the launch of Cowbellpedia quiz competition, Madam Cynthia Anima Boadu said the annual constitution quiz competition with its focus on the Junior High Schools (JHS) and the Senior High Schools (SHS) is to create and promote civic knowledge amongst the students and pupils “thereby inculcate in them civic skills and civic disposition such as patriotism, respect for the rights of others, respect for the laws, honesty, and courage among others, that would contribute to strengthening our constitutional democratic system since the constitution is the tap root of our democracy”.
The competition which started in Ga Central with 28 schools was expanded in 2017 to cover three (3) additional municipalities; Ga South, Ga West, and Accra Metro, increasing the number of participating schools to eighty-two (74 JHS and 16 SHS).
“This year, the constitution quiz programme has also been taken to Ga East and La Dadekotopon Municipalities making the number of districts competing stand at six involving 232 schools both JHS and SHS” she noted.
Cowbellpedia will take place in four stages at different locations. The preliminary stage will take place at some selected schools within each zone with an average of six (6) schools to compete for the first and second place to move to the quarterfinals stage.
The quarterfinals stage shall consist of 12 groups with six (6) schools in each group, where again the first and second schools from each will move to the semi-final stage.
The semi-finals shall consist of six (6) groups with an average of four (4) schools per group and here, it is only the school that comes up first who will proceed to the finals.
The finals shall have six (6) schools coming to compete for the ultimate prize of GH?10, 000 in cash, products and souvenirs.
