Re: Free SHS policy unfair to day students – UCC P

Good point Amega!!!! Even in the developed conuntries e.g UK there is no boarding for public schools considering the amount of money they have. All public schools are days schools. There is the need for more day schools in towns and cities and there should be policies to ensure students attend schools in their localities. This is the model for UK public schools and the government dont waste money on boarding facilities. All that is required is to train more graduate teachers with improved salary and remunerations. The goverment should set up a graduate scheme where unemployed graduates with first degrees to undertake Post Graduate Certificate in Education for a year where they are trained as teachers and post them to these day schools. Secondly a vibrant inspection directorate should be set up to monitor teaching and learning in these schools and schools that are below average must be supported to improve. The FSHS cannot be sustainable in the long term with these old ways of doing things. Like I said developed countries do not provide boarding facilities and feed students 3 times a day. The best they do e.g UK is to provide lunch for students whose parents are strugging financially. Akuffo-Addo with his exposure should know better. You go to these countries to borrow money and embark on policies like the FSHS which they do not do. They look at us like foolish people. Our leaders must use their brain.
