Ms Charlotte Abena Benyarku and 3 of her colleagues, who are 2nd year Environmental and Safety Engineering Students called The W2E Group, have won the 3rd edition of the Falling Walls Lab Ghana competition organised by the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) in Accra.
They presented a project entitled “Enva-Clean Fuel”.
According to the group, in a bid to deal with “after-harvest” waste issues and to find a sustainable alternative for wood fuel, they came up with the Enva-Clean Fuel.
The fuel is a conversion of the “after-harvest” waste into charcoal briquettes, using the local concept of charcoal making.
Enva-Clean Fuel produces less smoke, burns longer, produces more heat and does not require trees to be cut down thereby conserving the forest.
Her prize is a fully sponsored trip to Berlin, Germany to represent Ghana in the International Falling Walls Lab in November, 2019.
The Falling Walls Lab competition is a challenging and interdisciplinary platform that offers the opportunity for excellent academics and professionals to present their innovative ideas, research projects and social initiatives.
