2019 Africa Games 'Ghana will win more medals' - Dr Owusu Ansah

Dr. Emmanuel Owusu Ansah, the Technical Advisor of the Ministry of Youth and Sports has assured Ghanaians that, Ghana would pick more medals in this year’s Africa Games as compared to the last edition.

Ghana would be partaking in 14 disciplines which includes football, Judo, Karate-do, Badminton, Cycling, Hockey, Table Tennis at the quadrennial Games with 91 athletes and Dr. Owusu Ansah is confident, the athletes would pick more gold medals and make the nation proud in Morocco this month.

Speaking at a Press Briefing held on Wednesday at the Accra Sports Stadium ahead of the competition, the head of the Technical Sub-committee under the International Games and Competitions Committee, said they were focused on efficiency hence taking 91 athletes to the competition.

On his part, the sub-committee took into consideration Ghana’s last appearance at the Games in Congo Brazzaville, where over 300 athletes participated and won 11 medals including two gold medals.

He said “I can assure you that we would win more medals within Morocco. We are going with quality not quantity and I can assure Ghanaians they’ll get value for their monies.”

The athletes are currently at the Cape Coast Sports Stadium for intensive training and preparations towards the competitions.

Team Ghana is expected to leave the shores of Ghana on August 16 for the competition billed for 19-31 August in Rabat, Morocco.
