Deputy Minister for Transport and Member of Parliament for Tema East, Daniel Nii Titus Glover has stated that it is unfair for Ghanaians to call for the dismissal of Black Stars' Coach Kwesi Appiah.
According to him, the abysmal performance of Black Stars does not mean the coach is a failure.
And called on Ghanaians to encourage Kwesi Appiah rather than calling for his dismissal adding that, his dismissal may lead the country into appointing a foreign coach.
The MP's comment follows after the Sports Minister, Isaac Asiamah presented his report on the 2019 African Cup of Nations Cup (AFCON) to Parliament.
He said “There are a lot of people who are calling for the heads of the manager and for that matter the coach which I disagree with them. We are doing this because at the end of the day we will come back and say there is a need for a foreign coach. I totally disagree on those who want to make that argument that will land us in getting a foreign coach.”
“Four of the coaches that have won us cups for this country are Ghanaians, so even if there are flaws or there are mistakes and we all know watching from our offices and our homes but doesn’t mean he (Kwesi Appiah) is a failure. This is a Ghanaian coach and we have full confidence and believe in him that he can deliver. We have no room to start condemning him.” He added
Moreover, the Minister for Youth and Sports, Isaac Asiamah informed parliament that an amount of US$4,563,353.00 was spent from during the training tour to the time Ghana exited from the main tournament; out of an amount of US$6,365,033.44 that was approved for the tournament comprising training tour, main tournament and their related activities."
The Sports Minister expressed disappointment that although the Black Stars team went to the tournament with determination and all the support they needed, the team performed below expectation.
The Blackstars' exit from AFCON 2019 was one of the unpleasant memories for football fanatics in the country.
Ghana lost to Tunisia at the round of 16 of the game.
Issues of coaching deficiencies were one of the reasons most supporters believed caused the team’s early exit.
Hence Ghanaians called for the sack of head coach of the Black Stars Kwesi Appiah.
Isaac Asiamah has therefore indicated that after the study of various reports, the issue of reorganisation of football in Ghana will be addressed.
