Waste management expert, Zoomlion Ghana Limited is expected to disinfect more than 3,000 military facilities in the Ashanti Region, General Manager of the company, Philip Yeboah Asante, has said.

Mr Yeboah Asante, who supervises the Ashanti Region West division of the company, said his outfit is poised to conduct the exercise in a manner that would ensure that officers are not exposed to the novel coronavirus, which has so far infected more than 10,000 people and killed 48 in the country.

He made the disclosure when he addressed the media after the official launch of the disinfestation and fumigation exercise at the Uaddara Barracks in Kumasi on Wednesday.

“By the time the exercise ends, more than 3,000 military facilities would have been disinfected. And after that, we will move to fumigate all basic, senior high schools, religious organizations and tertiary institutions in the region, before schools are re-opened as directed by the president,” Mr Yeboah Asante added.

On his part, Brigadier General Joseph Aphour, General Officer Commanding Central Command, lauded government for moving swiftly to curtail the spread of the novel coronavirus in the country.

“I cannot thank government without appreciating the effort of Zoomlion. They have been at the forefront of the fight since the first case of coronavirus was recorded. They have brought their experience and expertise to bare, so they fully deserve our commendation,” he asserted.

Speaking on behalf of the Ashanti Regional Minister, the Municipal Chief Executive of Suame, Dr John Boahene, also seized the occasion to thank the president and urged the military officers to offer their support to ensure that the exercise is conducted successfully.
