Coronavirus: Details of sex and age distribution of confirmed cases in Ghana

The Ghana Health Service in its last update on Ghana’s COVID-19 situation has given a graphical breakdown of the country’s confirmed cases, based on age and gender.

According to the bar graph, persons between the ages of 25-34 are the age group with the highest confirmed cases in Ghana, 45-59 come in second place followed by 35-44. Persons between the ages of 15-25 come last as the age group with the least confirmed cases in Ghana.

The graph also shows that there are more confirmed Coronavirus cases among males in Ghana than females.

Ghana’s case count of coronavirus as of this morning stands at 287 confirmed cases with 5 recorded deaths and 3 full recoveries.

With Government announcing an enhanced contact tracing and testing measure to manage the spread of the virus in Ghana, the Minister of Information, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah at a press briefing this morning said, out of over 15,000 results of traced contacts expected by the Ghana Health Service this week, results for 7,461 persons have been received with only 14 (0.18%) testing positive for the virus.

“After testing 7461 of these contacts as at yesterday, we found 14 positives, representing 0.18%. While this is still early, it suggests that the community spread is relatively limited. More testing will, however, provide a clearer picture in the coming days. In total, routine surveillance and contact tracing have yielded 287 positives of which 49 have been discharged for home treatment, 228 are responding well to treatment, three have fully recovered and five with underlying health conditions have died," he indicated.

On Sunday, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo in an address to the nation said over 19,000 persons reached through contact tracing are being tested for COVID-19.

The president who described this week as a critical phase in Ghana’s fight against the virus said results of 15,000 of the contacts which are expected this week will determine the nations next line of action including a decision to extend restrictions on movements in the country or otherwise.
