Massive celebrations; that’s what they’d have been having this time of the year if they hadn’t been confined to their rooms because of the various restriction orders following some 408 confirmed cases of Coronavirus in Ghana.

Easter is characterised by merry-making and feasting, amid reflections and thanksgiving and people have fun in their own way; conventions, family gatherings, beach picnics, et. Some others choose to spend their time at Kwahu during the festivities.

This time, Greater Accra is celebrating on the quiet side. Online churches, personal meditations, and not much to each for some people.

Ghanaweb took to the streets at Adjiriganor to survey the mood out there and caught up with some residents.

For them, Easter would have been much more fun but for the outbreak of the Coronavirus and the surge in numbers. While bemoaning the situation, they expressed hope that the virus is stemmed, hoping to have a double-version of celebrations next year.

“We are not celebrating the Easter at all because of the Coronavirus, we are just indoors. We would have been somewhere enjoying if it weren’t for this, we pray God takes this away so that next year we can enjoy the Easter.” A resident said.

“If the virus goes, it will be a massive celebration. There are people who will add this year’s to next year’s to be double packed.” Another said.

This resident’s problem was not so different. She would have been feasting on good food with her family but for the outbreak. Today, she has had to manage with what is available because there is a hold on movement.

"When it is Easter, you know what we do, we buy food, buy clothes for the children, but look at what I’m eating."

Easter is an occasion marked by Christians worldwide to commemorate the sacrifice of Christ Jesus on the cross.
