Essien, Kuffour in Africa all-time best XI
Ghana’s duo of Michael Essien and Samuel Osei Kuffour have been named in The Sun Football all-time Africa best XI.
Essien, a once stalwart in the midfield of Chelsea earned the nomination following his impressive performance with the Stamford Bridge club for close to a decade.
Similarly, Kuffour was an influential player for Bundesliga side, Bayern Munich, a club he signed for between 1993 to 2005 before moving to AS Roma in the Italian Serie A.
Both players also made important contribution to the national team including helping in Ghana’s debut appearance at the World Cup in Germany 2006.
Kuffour won six Bundesliga titles with Bayern Munich (1996–97, 1998–99, 1999–2000, 2000–01, 2002–03, 2004–05), the Champions League in 2000–01 as well as several other trophies and also the BBC African Footballer of the Year in 2001.
Essien also helped Chelsea to win two Premier League titles (2005–06, 2009–10) and several other club titles and was also the BBC African Footballer of the Year in 2006.
Other players who made the list include four-time Africa Footballer of the Year and Samuel Eto’o, five-time Africa Footballer of the Year Yaya Toure.
Also in the list are George Weah, the 1995 World Footballer of The Year, Ivorian legend Didier Drogba and Liverpool duo Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah.
