FIFA queries GFA on Tema Youth transfer saga
World soccer governing body,FIFA, has queried the Ghana Football Association (GFA) for clarification on the raging legal dispute with Tema Youth in respect of Joseph Paintsil’s 3million euros transfer.
Graphic Sports Online learnt on Wednesday that FIFA wrote to the GFA on Tuesday to confirm or deny the story barely 24 hours after Graphic Sports broke the news on its front page last Monday.
Further investigations revealed that FIFA was notified of the issue by a curious Ghanaian journalist who sought to know FIFA’s position on the issue.
Efforts to reach the GFA to comment on the issue proved futile.
However, the president and sporting director of Tema Youth, Wilfred Kweku Osei, aka Palmer, confirmed the story and hinted that the club was in the process of responding to the letter it received from Mr Frank Davis of Davis and Davis law firm on behalf of the GFA.
According to Palmer, apart from the fact that the 10 per cent share of the 3million euros transfer fee being demanded by the FA is illegal, it was also unconventional for the GFA to write to the club through a private lawyer without a Power of Attorney.
He explained that as a matter of procedure, the GFA should have used its internal structures to communicate to the club instead of resorting to the services of a private lawyer outside the jurisdiction of the FA.
